In the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States asphalt shingles are used about 90% of the time. Asphalt Shingles:
- 3-tab Shingle – This shingle measures 3 feet or shows 3 tabs and is generally available in 25, 30 40 or 50 year warranties. This shingle gives your roof a defined smooth look.
- Architectural Shingle – Architectural asphalt shingles feature larger exposures, better algae- and weather-resistant properties, and a greater array of warranty options. These types of shingles give your roof more depth and better definition giving your roof a layered look.
- Specialty Roofing – There are many types of specialty shingles that are made to imitate their predecessor’s. There is imitation slate, shake and tile. These are designed for the homeowner to have a maintenance free product at a much lower cost then the original.
