Questions about exterior work in Clifton
Is Virginia Exteriors licensed to work in Virginia?
Yes. We carry full liability and workers’ compensation insurance on every job, and our Virginia contractor license number is on every estimate we send — you can verify it on the DPOR website in about 30 seconds.
How long does a typical project take?
Most window replacements finish in a single day. Full-house siding is typically two to four days depending on the scope. Roofing runs one to two days for a standard colonial. We give you a schedule before we start and tell you exactly which days the crew will be on-site.
Do you handle HOA approval paperwork?
Yes. We submit material and color specs to your HOA on your behalf and handle follow-up from the review board. We know what most Northern Virginia associations want to see — product cut sheets, color samples, installation specs — and we price the submittal into every job. We make sure what we install will pass review before we ever order materials.
What warranty comes with the work?
Every product carries the manufacturer’s warranty — lifetime limited on most windows and siding, 25 to 50 years on roofing. We add a written workmanship warranty on top of that. If something fails because of how it was installed, we fix it. Warranty service is handled by the same crew that did the work, not handed off to a call center.
Is my house in the Town of Clifton or just the Clifton ZIP code?
Most 20124 addresses are not in the town. The town itself is roughly a quarter square mile around Chapel Road and Main Street with about 200 residents. Everything else with a Clifton address is unincorporated Fairfax County. It matters because the town requires design review and the county does not.
How long does Clifton Architectural Review Board approval take?
The ARB meets monthly, typically the last Thursday, and only when applications have come in by the deadline. Plan on one to two months from a complete application, and remember it is one of three approvals inside town limits. The use permit and the county building permit are separate. We prepare the package; we cannot shorten the calendar.
Can I put vinyl siding on a home in the historic district?
Inside the town, that is the review board’s call rather than ours. The ARB expects materials appropriate to the building, so wood clapboard and real trim profiles are usually what clears. We will tell you what is likely to be approved before you spend anything on it, and we will prepare the package either way. Outside the town line there is no design review, and most of those homes are already vinyl.
