About our work in Fairfax
Why Fairfax homeowners choose Virginia Exteriors
Fairfax covers both the City of Fairfax and a large chunk of central Fairfax County: older inside-the-Beltway homes from the 1950s and 1960s, the wave of 1970s and 1980s subdivisions, and infill custom builds going in today. The common thread on the older homes is original or first-replacement windows well past their lifespan, and trim that has been painted over rather than maintained.
Whether you are in a subdivision with HOA review or a non-HOA neighborhood inside the city limits, we walk the exterior with you, point out what is actually failing versus what is cosmetic, and put together a written estimate that prioritizes the parts of the envelope doing the most work, usually windows and the south-facing siding first.

Common exterior projects in Fairfax
What we see on Fairfax homes
Every neighborhood has its own pattern of what fails first and why. Here is what we see most often on Fairfax homes.
HOA and non-HOA, side by side
The same job takes a different approval path depending on which street you are on. We handle the HOA submittal where it is required and skip the paperwork where it is not.
Original mid-century windows
Inside-the-Beltway homes still carry their first windows: rotted wood sashes, failed weatherstripping, and single-pane glass. These are the highest-return replacement we do.
Paint hiding trim rot
Decades of repainting mask rot at the bottom of vertical trim boards and behind shutters. We wrap or replace rather than repaint over the problem.
Roofs aging with the rest
On many Fairfax homes the asphalt roof reaches end of life at the same time as the siding and windows below it, which is where one coordinated project pays off.

Common questions
Questions about exterior work in Fairfax
Is Virginia Exteriors licensed to work in Virginia?
Yes. We carry full liability and workers’ compensation insurance on every job, and our Virginia contractor license number is on every estimate we send โ you can verify it on the DPOR website in about 30 seconds.
How long does a typical project take?
Most window replacements finish in a single day. Full-house siding is typically two to four days depending on the scope. Roofing runs one to two days for a standard colonial. We give you a schedule before we start and tell you exactly which days the crew will be on-site.
Do you handle HOA approval paperwork?
Yes. We submit material and color specs to your HOA on your behalf and handle follow-up from the review board. We know what most Northern Virginia associations want to see โ product cut sheets, color samples, installation specs โ and we price the submittal into every job. We make sure what we install will pass review before we ever order materials.
What warranty comes with the work?
Every product carries the manufacturer’s warranty โ lifetime limited on most windows and siding, 25 to 50 years on roofing. We add a written workmanship warranty on top of that. If something fails because of how it was installed, we fix it. Warranty service is handled by the same crew that did the work, not handed off to a call center.
Do you serve both the City of Fairfax and Fairfax County?
Yes. We work across the City of Fairfax and central Fairfax County, from the older inside-the-Beltway neighborhoods to the 1970s and 80s subdivisions and newer infill builds.
Some Fairfax neighborhoods have an HOA and some don’t. Does that matter?
Only for paperwork. Where an HOA review applies, we handle the color and material submittal as part of the job. Where it does not, we skip it. Either way the install is the same.
What usually needs doing first on an older Fairfax home?
Windows and south-facing siding, most often. We prioritize the parts of the envelope doing the most work and tell you what is actually failing versus what is only cosmetic.
